In this months blog, we chat to our digital sales manager Jamie, about why it was important to refresh the Bartletts Hi-Fi website.
This month you are celebrating the launch of your new website, what prompted you to change the old one?
We felt that it was important to have a refresh as the old site was looking and feeling a little outmoded. We wanted to show customers the broader range of facilities and services Bartletts Hi-Fi offers, such as the demonstration room and the service department. Its also important to remind people that we are a long established, functioning, independent retailer, that has maintained and grown a reputation upon excellent advice and service. Finally, it was felt that the logo and general design needed a change too, as it was a little long in the tooth.
Summarise the brief for the new website?
We wanted to develop a site that was easier for users to both navigate, and locate products.
It was important for us to capitalise on our history and expertise in the industry and the fact that we are real people in a bricks and mortar business, not just a faceless online business. Greater flexibility and control in terms of our own in-house administration was paramount too.
What new features have been added to the new site?
Aside from the fundamental design features to offer better navigation, the “Book a Demonstration” button is a great new feature, and has already proven very popular.
Pushing the virtues of coming into the store and experiencing the products first hand is very important and the ability to communicate this and book online is imperative. We also have a signup option for our monthly newsletters, giving the opportunity to get to know about new products, events and services.
How does the site reflect your company ethos?
We constantly aim to offer friendly, impartial and straight-forward advice to all of our prospective and existing customers. The site hopefully helps convey this ethos and whilst nothing can replace face-to-face communication, we see this as a digital extension of our team.
What are the challenges with selling audio-equipment online?
It is an ever increasing challenge with relation to price and competition, but ultimately we are a bricks and mortar business. Due to the nature of our products, consumers value the personal expertise and service Bartletts offer. Audio equipment and its quality is something that is impossible to demonstrate over the internet, so whilst the online side of our business is very important, we feel it should be an extension of our in-store values and approach. Developing online confidence isn’t the easiest of things to achieve, however hopefully our new site will go some way in helping.
What new products can we expect to see appearing over the next few months?
At present we are all really excited with the popularity of turntables and active speakers and generally how quality and convenience are being merged together successfully by manufacturers. The new Dynaudio XEO2 active speakers are amazing for their price and performance, plus the soon to be released Arcam SOLO range of products look to be very impressive too.
The Bristol Sound and Vision show is on at the end of the month and should offer up a glimpse of some great new products, you will see more of our thoughts on this via our social media pages.
